Gifts of Stocks, Bonds, and Mutual Funds

Make a gift of appreciated securities and receive valuable tax benefits—all while supporting BIDMC’s mission of advancing medicine, enhancing care, and reducing disease in Boston and beyond.

Appreciated Stocks and Bonds
You may choose the benefits of making a gift to BIDMC of appreciated securities, including stocks or bonds. A gift of long-term appreciated securities provides capital gains tax savings and allows you to claim an income-tax charitable deduction.

Mutual Fund Shares
Gifts may also be made from mutual fund accounts to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. You are required to write a letter of instruction to your mutual fund stating the number of shares being given to the Medical Center, the timing of the gift, and the name of the account from which the shares are coming.

For assistance making your gift with appreciated securities or mutual funds shares, please contact: Chris Romagnolo at cromagno@bidmc.harvard.edu or (617) 667-7330. You may also download the IRS 8283 tax form which can be used when making non-cash gifts to BIDMC.

Wedding/party favors

Many occasions in life are marked by the celebration and gathering of family, friends, and colleagues, including weddings, bridal showers, bar/bat mitzvahs, christenings, retirement ceremonies, and birthday parties, just to name a few.

If you are the host/hostess of the event, making a donation to Grateful Nation is a unique way to let your guests know how grateful you are for their presence. Your gift to Grateful Nation will support BIDMC’s quality care and world-class clinicians and researchers. Favors and/or placecards can be personalized to let guests know that you made a donation to a cause that is important to you in their honor. You can also invite friends and family to support Grateful Nation in lieu of gifts.

If you are attending the celebration and know that BIDMC is a cause close to the honoree or hosts’ heart, please consider making a celebration or tribute gift in their name.

Gift in-kind donations

At Grateful Nation, member support can come in the form of an item or service referred to as a gift in-kind. Contributions of products, services, tickets, raffle or auction items are put to good use – so we can do good - at events or as a prize for one of our Grateful Nation sweepstakes.

Examples of generous in-kind gifts we have received include, but are not limited to:

Tickets to the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, Patriots and other sporting events
Tickets to the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Tanglewood
Provision of food and beverages at an event
Complimentary printing services for event materials
Donation of gift certificates, electronics, jewelry and apparel

Gifts in-kind are greatly appreciated. They defray costs for our events and programs meaning more of the funds raised go directly to Grateful Nation and support BIDMC’s mission of providing world-class care.
